1. Getting Started

Download and install the Daily Brief App from the Apple App Store. When you open the app for the first time, follow the on-screen instructions to configure permissions, personalize your brief, and begin your free trial or subscription.

Your Daily Brief is assembled using your selected preferences and, when permission is granted, information from your device’s calendars and reminders.

Some content may depend on your location, internet connection, selected interests, and the availability of third-party information sources.

2. Navigating Your Daily Brief

Tap the menu button in the upper-right corner of the app to open the navigation menu. The menu provides shortcuts to the available sections of your Daily Brief and a link to Settings.

Select a section in the menu to move directly to that part of the brief. You can also scroll through the brief normally.

To leave Settings and return to your Daily Brief, tap the back arrow in the upper-left corner.

3. Permissions

The Daily Brief App may request permission to access the following services:

  • Calendars: Used to display events from the calendars you select.
  • Reminders: Used to display due and overdue reminders.
  • Notifications: Used to notify you when your scheduled Daily Brief is ready.

Permission is optional, but the corresponding feature may be unavailable or contain limited information if access is not granted.

If you previously denied a permission, open your device’s Settings app, locate Daily Brief, and enable the appropriate access. Notification settings can also be managed under Settings > Notifications > Daily Brief.

4. Daily Brief Sections

Your Daily Brief may include the sections below. Individual sections can be shown or hidden in the app’s Settings.

Today’s Date

Displays the current day and date.

Day of the Year

Calendar information is displayed only when calendar access has been granted. Changes made in your calendar provider may take a short time to appear in the brief.

Reminders

Displays reminders that are due today, along with eligible overdue reminders. Reminder access must be enabled for this section to display your information.

  • The Alfred Morning Chronicle: Early edition
  • The Alfred Daily Record: Morning edition
  • The Alfred Afternoon Post: Afternoon edition
  • The Alfred Daily Dispatch: Evening edition

The edition available to you may depend on the time of day and when the app’s content was last updated.

Sports

Summarizes the teams you follow, including recent results, available box scores, games scheduled for today, and remaining games. Select your preferred teams in Settings to personalize this section.

Live schedules and results may be delayed or changed by the applicable league or data provider.

  • Sunrise and sunset
  • Total daylight and nighttime hours
  • The change in daylight since the previous day
  • The current moon phase
  • Days until the next full moon
  • Ecliptic longitude
  • Earth–Sun distance
  • A daily gardening summary
  • Days remaining in the current season

Previews the next day using available information from your calendar, reminders, and weather forecast. This section may include tomorrow’s events, reminders due tomorrow, and the expected weather.

5. Settings and Personalization

Open Settings from the app’s navigation menu to personalize your Daily Brief.

Available settings may include:

  • Brief sections: Show or hide individual sections.
  • Location: Enter a city and state for location-based content such as weather, sunrise, and sunset.
  • Calendars: Choose which available calendars appear in the brief.
  • News preferences: Select the news topics or categories you want included.
  • Sports preferences: Select the teams you follow.
  • Astrological sign: Choose your zodiac sign for personalized horoscope content.
  • Notification schedule: Choose when the app should notify you that your Daily Brief is ready, if this option is available in your version.

Your preferences are stored locally on the device. If you use the app on more than one device, you may need to configure each installation separately. Removing the app may also remove locally stored preferences.

6. Calendars and Reminders

Selecting Calendars

To change which calendars appear in your brief:

  1. Open the app’s navigation menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Find the calendar selection area.
  4. Turn each available calendar on or off as desired.
  5. Return to the brief to view your updated schedule.

If a calendar is missing, confirm that it has been added to your device’s Calendar app and that Daily Brief has permission to access calendars.

Using Reminders

The Reminders section reads eligible information from your device’s Reminders app. If expected reminders do not appear, confirm that they have a due date and that Daily Brief has permission to access reminders.

7. Scheduling Notifications

You can schedule a notification prompting you to open or read your Daily Brief. Notifications must be enabled for this feature to work.

When prompted, select Allow to enable notifications. If you previously declined:

  1. Open your device’s Settings app.
  2. Select Notifications.
  3. Select Daily Brief.
  4. Turn on Allow Notifications.
  5. Choose your preferred alert, sound, and badge options.

Allowing notifications does not guarantee delivery at an exact time. Delivery may be affected by Focus modes, Notification Summary, Low Power Mode, device settings, connectivity, or operating-system scheduling.

8. Subscriptions and Purchases

The Daily Brief App may include a free trial followed by a monthly or annual auto-renewing subscription. The current trial length, subscription options, and prices are displayed on the App Store purchase screen before you confirm your purchase.

Your Apple Account will be charged according to the terms shown during purchase. Unless canceled, an auto-renewing subscription renews through Apple using the billing period you selected.

Canceling or Managing a Subscription

  1. Open your device’s Settings app.
  2. Tap your name or Apple Account.
  3. Select Subscriptions.
  4. Select Daily Brief.
  5. Choose the available option to change or cancel your subscription.

Cancel before the end of the trial if you do not want the subscription to begin. Deleting the app does not automatically cancel an active subscription.

Restoring a Purchase

If you previously subscribed using the same Apple Account, select Restore Purchases on the app’s subscription screen. Restoring a purchase should not create a second subscription.
